Walking is a common and generally accepted form of physical activity that has shown benefits for reducing cardiovascular risk and improving diabetes control. There is less data available for the health benefits of meditation, but there are certainly mental benefits. This study is small and done in a non-U.S. population (Thailand), but the results are interesting. Practicing mindfulness while walking, compared to usual walking, lowered blood pressure as well as A1C (7.7% to 7.2%). I’d like to see more studies on the impact of meditation on diabetes bio-markers. Combining meditation with physical activity seems especially attractive.
